Description
Dating from c1600 this iconic painting, which has become one of the most recognised artworks around the world, is the work of Dutch artist Ambrosius Bosschaert.
Bosschaert was a Dutch, still life painter and art dealer. He specialized in painting flowers and fruit and was one of the earliest painters to create floral still lifes as an independent genre.His compositions are very symmetrical and precise, carefully balancing form and color.
The National Gallery, London houses one of the greatest collections of paintings in the world. Its collection boasts 2,300 works including many famous paintings such as van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, Velázquez’s Rokeby Venus, Turner’s Fighting Temeraire and Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.
